About us
Light is the source of energy on the earth, as represented by solar energy, and is indispensable for our survival. Solar energy is being sought for its effective use as an alternative to petroleum resources, which will eventually be depleted. On the other hand, we cannot see things in the dark without light. Light also has the function of conveying information to us. Effective use of light energy and information transmission by light are achieved through the interaction of light and matter. In our laboratory, we study this interaction between light and matter at the molecular level using photochemical techniques. Using the results of this research, we are also developing molecules called “luminescent probes” that can light up living cells and tissues, and are challenging the “visualization of life phenomena”.
